Founded in 1967, the Palo Alto Concours faced a big challenge this year, losing the grassy field at Stanford University and moving to the
San Mateo Expo Center. The organizers must be complimented on doing a good job, as the show was quite enjoyable and the venue
was an advantage in some ways. Cadillac and Ferrari were the featured marquees which is always a treat.
Despite a reduced participant car count and a website that has oddly gotten worse, the layout was more reminiscent of the Goodguys

events in Pleasanton. Car spacing was better than past years and the trees and buildings
offered plenty of shade. There were the usual and not so usual vendors that were quite
welcome due to their variety and quality. There were plenty of areas to sit and an indoor café
was also quite welcome.
Glancing at the program, it was great to see David and Howard Swig named as Honorary Co-
Chairs in appreciation of their father and car-guy extraordinaire, Martin Swig. Unfortunately it
appeared some participants were no-shows but despite that, the Pantera contingent was most
memorable since they are so similar and there were so many. However, a fine selection of
classic and newer Ferraris was mouth-watering.
Of course domestics were well represented , but was most memorable was the Bamford
Collection. Ms. Bamford is a well known and very personable owner, driver and enthusiast whose signature white cars in one of the
buildings earned a second, long trip back to that section. A ’69 540ci Camaro, Ferrari 16M Scuderia, 458 Italia, 430 Scuderia, ’14 Nissan
GT-R Track Edition (first in the US), Ford GT and Lamborghini LP670 SV, and a black Enzo looking wicked-bad stamped their presence on
the brain.
Perhaps the show was too close to a holiday weekend or the venue change kept some away, but another benefit was a slight relief from
the recent heat. Hopefully the Palo Alto Concours D'elegance will rebound for 2014. This event is always highly recommend and this
year was certainly nothing to be ashamed of. See you next year, wherever you may be.
