Ask Rob About Cars April 2, 2012 12:29 AM MST I need a 2nd car to drive to work. My wife has a Toyota Corolla with an automatic for her and our child. I was thinking about a used 3- series 2003-2006 or Mini same year range. Gas and car prices are 30-40% higher than US (used or new). They have a lot of car brands that are not available in the US. Fiat, Alfa, .etc. I think a Mini or BMW will be reliable; they are everywhere here in Johannesburg. Also, I’m The a great driver's, and family man's choice globally. BMWs are fantastic driver oriented cars that easily adapt to the track and are rear-wheel drive for a more satisfying driving experience on the track. Granted the Mini with its short wheelbase would be a challenge but is still front-wheel drive. Finally, given the fact you have a small child; my opinion is a second 4- door is a better choice.
