The Down Low on the Street Low Car Show

Evergreen college parking lots tucked in the foothills of east San Jose was the host of the Street Low 2012 Car Show on Sunday, August 12th.

There was a great variety of low riders and dub cars of various vintages, with the classics really
standing out. The artistry was stunning in some cases and some really cool and clean
engineering. A big contrast to the little tire and wheel low riders was the Dub cars with enormous
wheels, some were 28”! Although probably more useless than the little ones, it’s a striking
visual impact. Never mind function over form, this is about a particular style.

There were plenty of vendors for food, drink, accessories and lifestyle wares. Of course the
girls stood out highlighting the event and picture opportunities with them drew the biggest
crowd outside of the entertainment stage.

Tattoos were the norm at this laid back event. There were cars, motorcycles and some really
cool custom bicycles. The bicycles are custom built from the ground-up which really says a lot about the ingenuity of the builders.

Although regarded as a cultural tradition or representation, there is no reason not to expect a special class for Low Riders at the Pebble Beach Concours D’elegance in a decade or two. But don’t wait, its worth seeing before that.
